Serdar has worked at the University of Mersin, Physics Department as an associate Professor, between 2010 and 2023 where he also studied the Physics of Music. He has published several articles, proceedings, contributed to books and has managed several lectures such as “Physics of Music” at the State Conservatory and “Studio and Acoustics” at Department of Radio, TV and Cinema.
He examined the Kanun, its sound characteristics and the dependence of the instrument’s structure form his Master’s thesis. Besides obligation to teach via undergraduate and graduate lessons, he follows that help and gives assistance to instrument makers, to assist to the students with their MS or PhD thesis in Turkey.
Besides basic Physics of Music, his main focus is on applied research, particularly sound analysis and the development of measurement methods for the evaluation of the musical quality of instruments. He also researches influence of materials in and instrument’s body, such as sound properties and playing techniques. All his papers are shared on his personal website.
